This fleece is from Elodie - a young ewe lamb, sister to Amy, whose fleece is also here. You can see the lovely curl and mellow grey colour in the photo. . It is very soft. Staple 12cm. Very little vm. Approx 0.93 Kgs.

We started shearing our Gotland lambs today (Sept 18). Autumn shearing means that we can collect the soft and beautiful 'first clip' and saves the sheep from being troubled by flies. If they are not sheared, by mid-Winter, their fleeces become matted and heavy; instead their wool will re-grow quickly and be lovely and fresh. They all came in from the field this morning and so they have very little vm . Each lamb has been sheared by Henry, our Farm Manager, who takes to make as few second cuts as possible.

Please note this fleece is loose and is suitable for spinning, felting or peg-loom weaving. It has been roughly skirted in the barn while shearing is going on, but these are raw fleeces and buyers should take the usual precautions when handling them. As Gotlands love to browse hedgerows, there may be the occasional thorn - so have a quick run through with fingers to pull any out before diving in!
