This fleece is from Jill, a young ewe lamb. Her mother is 100% Gotland and her father is 100% Teeswater. The fleece has some of the drape of the Teeswater and the softness of the Gotland - it is all creamy-white. The staple is 12cm, and the weight is approx 0.9kgs.

It is the first time we have these Teeswater/Gotland fleeces. They have come up lighter than I expected. We could have let them grow longer fleece, but shearing them now means that there is still enough warm weather for them; we will not keep them in the barn for long! Strangely, they have been in the same field as the Gotlands, but some of these cross fleeces have kept hold of a little bit of vm, I think, because of the sheer softness of the wool. I have skirted them roughly in the barn while shearing is going on - as they are loose this is not an easy process, and you will have to sort some leg wool and so on from the longer body fleece. But I am sure it will be worth it for something quite remarkable and lovely!

As always, Autumn shearing means that we can collect the soft and beautiful 'first clip' and saves the sheep from being troubled by flies. If they are not sheared, by mid-Winter, their fleeces become matted and heavy; instead their wool will re-grow quickly and be lovely and fresh. They all came in from the field this morning and each lamb has been sheared by Henry, our Farm Manager, who takes to make as few second cuts as possible.

Please note this fleece is loose and is suitable for spinning, felting or peg-loom weaving. These are raw fleeces and buyers should take the usual precautions when handling them.

Our wool is certified organic and no harsh chemicals have been used on them.
